Question:
I know my surgery is in 2 months exactly, but I am EXCITED!. In fact my husband is probably tired of me talking about it. I think it's why I'm on here almost everynight, reading and reading and reading. But I want to make sure I dot my "I's", cross my "T's" and so forth.
Any suggestions on what not to do after surgery and for how long. For instance I thought me laying my head elevated would only be for a week, at the most but I have read from some that they were still laying elevated and it has been 3 weeks. I need all the suggestions I can get. BTW, I rub my hard b/c of allergies. My husband says I'm going to need to cut that out....my ps told me that my nose would be back to normal in 3 - 4 wks. When can i rub my nose again, or never?
Answer:
Hey Tina,
I too have allergies, I have only had 1 allergy attack since my surgery (July 17) but my ps said it was ok to take allergy meds. I wouldn't really rub your too much because this will probably make the swelling worse. I only started lightly blowing my nose a week or so ago. I use Q-tips most of the time.
Just listen to your ps and do whatever he says to do and NOT to do, they seem to have their differences as far as what you can and cannot do and for how long...good luck!

Hi Tina,
It is exciting to think about & plan for your procedure!! I'm 8wk post op & still sleep elevated. My PS' assistant has commented several times that sleeping elevated will help prevent morning swelling.
I too have had allergies on occasion & had an itchy , etc etc but haven't at all since my Septo/Rhinoplasty. My PS stressed many times to not touch along the bridge & tip area because septal cart. was used. That warning was enough to deter any touching of my nose. A week post-surgery I was shown how to do a "pushing" exercise along the bones at the top of my nose. I do them once an hour, 10x a day, for 30 seconds. That's the only time I've remotely touched my nose hard or squeezed.
Follow your PS' instructions, have everything ready house-wise, groceries purchased, prescriptions filled, try to have extra care to tend to children especially if you have young ones at home.
Good Luck,
mgna

Hey tinafromthedesert - my surgery is on Oct 18, when is yours? Thanks for ag the great questions, got me some answers too
Answer:
im soooo sorry for not getting back sooner, my husband has been a computer hog for the last few nights. LOL
My day is Oct. 20th! I have to be there @ 6am. I dont think I'll get any sleep at all.
Im trying to make sure I do everything right. I dont want a revision. My husaband said that we more important things to do with our money, so this has to be the one and time I do this. I've already had 2 other sugeries, but for the same reason though. But then again I did pay for it before I married him.
Nervous. But extremely happy, Im finally doing it. I almost feel like I'm 10 yrs old and Oct. will be X-mas for me. Do you have any pics of before? And what exactly is you ps doing to you?
Answer:
I have a deviated septum, partially blocking the left nostril. I also have obvious mid vault collapse & lateral mid nasal wall collapse when I inhale. I also have a mildly deviated nasal dorsum. (whatever all that means, LOL) PS is planning a corrective septoplasty, utilizing both spreader grafts and lateral mid vault wall cartilaginous grafts for support. He is also going to remove my hump, shave off some size & lift & shape the tip. My PS does revisions for free thankgoodness Unless I think you have to go under again, then I would be responsible for the anesthesia & facility cost. OMG, the Christmas feeling is so true!!!!!! I am totally wishing Sept. away LOL!!! I actually wanna be a year from now & HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY with my results I am VERY nervous about the packing I will have to have in for 10 days!! What are you having done and do you have pics too? Mine are posted below under the toucan sam album - feel free to check out all the albums, not my 1st PS either - I love my PS, I feel like he is my wonderful hero!!
Answer:
Wow it sounds like you having a lot done! My procedure to me is simple. From the sounds of it........I feel extremely vain.
Im only having my tip done. I just dont like the way it looks. There's really nothing wrong with my breathing or anything else. I just hate my tip. But I have always wanted to change it for a while now. Yikes on the packing. You are going to going through a lot more than I will.....I think. But I will still want to see how you come along being that you are a couple of days before me. I'm trying to get some before pics on here but Im still having problems on how to do it. ( I know Im new to all this. lol)
But when I do I will let you know. Keep in touch.
Tina
Answer:
It is kind of a blessing that I do have the breathing issues because now my insurance will pay for my septoplasty! PS isn't going to charge me for the rhinoplasty part As far as the cosmetic issues I have with my , the top is my biggest concern too - so we are on the same page there LOL I use trail for my pics, it talks you through the process easily & it is a free account.

Thank you for the website, I will try there. My husband thinks I'M crazy for posting my pic. He said others will look at me and wonder why I want my done. But I always say... It's not what others' think about my nose...It's me. It's the only reason why I'm getting done. It's what I see.
Again, thank you I will try to go there and see what I can do about getting pics on here finally. I want to share my experience and show others the before and after. And I course.....my "do's and don'ts". Today I bought my that I will be laying on for weeks. I'm most worried about the swelling so I wanted to buy a pillow that will be comfortable for weeks on end.
Ill be back, looking forward to the pic part. Im going to get that going now.
I always like to put the face with the name.
