Allergies and Anxiety

Question: Is it possible for an allergy to cause intense general anxiety?

I was wondering cause I seem to be able to control it when I take an anti-hisatamine, Ive always felt much more calm in the winter, and my cousin was obsessive and anxious when he was young until they found out he had a milk allergy.

Has anyone heard of this possibility?

If its true, how do I find out???

Answer:
i think so- i was just thinking that today. i get the dizzy feeling and tightness in my chest, also have post nasal so stomach is messed up. so from these symptoms, i seem to get panic attacks. some days are worse. today i tried an antihistamine and i think it worked. i still didn't feel 100% but i didn't have a panic attack. i've had panic attacks for about 5 years and have allergies for about 5 years - maybe related? i know all my panic is health related so i'm going to give this a shot. i've also been having reflux so i think that is helping fuel my panic.

Answer:
yes, I think it can cause anxiety, and I also think allergic reactions can be confused with anxiety. I had horrible chest tightness related to allergy/sinus drainage in my chest. I was told it was an anxiety attack, but Xanax didn't help it at all. But it went away completely after I had my sinus surgery.

Answer:
So if I go to a doctor can I get checked? Cause anti-histamines honestly seem to work...even my headache is almost totally gone. And I have an anxiety-related headache almost ALL THE TIME.

Answer:
yes go to the doctor. Tell him your symptoms and how the antihistimines help.
