Question:
i have been pretty weight steady for a year...i gained 2kg last march after starting weight training..also had inch loss in waist so that 2kg was attributed to muscle.
from march to dec i was give or take a pound, the same weight. from dec to jan all i changed was adding walking..would walk 2-5miles per day (at about 3.5miles per hour speed)
from dec to jan i suddenly gained 4kg..and the BIA machine says it is ALL FAT
how the heck can this be true..both the gain itself and that it is fat?!?!?!
Answer:
Before I bought my Tanita Ironman BIA scale, I did some research and it got the top rated reviews so that's why I purchased it but it does mention that it can be within a 5% fat range from the most accurate professional testing. You are supposed to weigh yourself at the same time for comparison and not within 3 hours of eating or exercising or in the morning so they recommend before dinner. Under those conditions, I have found that the ranges do change within about a 5% range and so it will give you a ballpark estimate of your fat content but I don't think it will be more accurate than that. I can't give you any opinions on other manufacturer's scales and how accurate they are.
Answer:
THose bioimpedance fat measurers are TOTALLY UNRELIABLE! Take their readings with a grain of salt.
