Nervous about my yearly gyn appt...please read

Question: Hi ladies. I am do for my annual pelvic exam at the Ob/Gyn office. I am a little nervous to go now since I had my tt and my BA. I just feel strange about it. I know this is silly and I didn't think it would bother me, but it kinda does.

With my BA, will they still check my breast like usual? The tt part really doesn't bother me like my BA does, and its just telling them I had it done.

Don't get me wrong. I am so glad that I did this and I really don't care what peoples opinions are of me for doing this, I just feel awkward.

Advice, opinions, please. Anyone else been in my shoes?

Hi Stacy,
I just went to my gyn yesterday. She knew I was having the surgeries and was very interested in seeing the results. I brought in my before s just in case she forgot what I used to look like.

While she was very supportive, when I mentioned my interest in further surgeries, like the BL/BA, she seemed to think I was getting addictive and that I might never be happy. She may be right but I really wanted her medical expertise not personal feelings to help guide me. I asked if she had any patients with implants and she stated a few "younger" women. I got the impression that she felt I was too old to be doing this. I could be wrong but it's how I felt.

I kinda enjoyed showing off my surgeries. I've managed to overcome my embarrassment and can show any of my docs my incisions. They (pcp and gyn - think I'll leave my doc and dentist out of this list) seem genuinely interested and intrigued, and both commented on the remarkable improvement.

So I would guess that your gyn may feel the same. Doubt you are the first but it is something they probably don't see every day. And your gyn may have some valuable suggestions on breast-self exam with your new implants.

Good luck!

Stacy - so funny you mentioned that. I haven't seen this one on the board before but I've thought the same thing. Even thought about changing docs!!!!

Answer:
I've worried about it too...but not because I even remotely care about what her opinion of me will be, but because I'm afraid the bitch might hurt me when it comes time for her to push and press around on my tummy.

Answer:
My Gyn knew before...he was one of 3 docs to encourage it!! The only issue I'm now concerned with is the actual exam...you know..when they push on the pelvic area to check the ovaries?? I'm afraid it's going to hurt like heck!! Anyone here already gone...and survived?..lol
Thanks!

I was nervous about it too and had my first GYN checkup at around 2 months p/o so I was really nervous about her pressing down on my belly, didn't care what she really thought about me having it done. She was very supportive and impressed with it all and she was very gentle in pressing told me to tell her the second it hurt and she would back off, but it didn't hurt at all. I haven't had a BA so I didn't have to deal with that issue.

Good Luck!

Hey guys,

I went to my GYN and she said "So you had saline implants put in?"I told her I had silcone and she rolled her s and said"At 46 YOU had someone put silcone implants in? MY god!" I dont think I will be going back. My Gp (a guy) was thrilled, always wants to check and see ( )

Stacy, I was just wondering what to do about this yesterday. So glad you posted this. I'm going to try to track down my old GYN Dr. who I feel very comfortable with. I know he is very understanding and cool. Wish me Luck.

Thank you so much ladies.

My gyn group consists of 7 docs (all men). My favorite doc is booked until the end of July so I went with the next best one (IMO). He is a younger and I really liked him as far as OB was concerned, but haven't had him as the 'gyn' doc before.

It is so silly to be concerned over this, I know, but I have butterflies already and I don't go until June 20.

I am sure there will be some negative energies from the staff, but I do know that they aren't aloud to say one word about it to me. I do n't care how much they talk when I am not around.

I really have to go because when I was 19 I was diagd with stage 1 cervical dysplasysia which was treated with surgery and I have done ok since, but I don't want to not go to my appts and then something happen. I have had a few es since but all is good now. I want to keep it that way.

Glad to know that I am not the only one whose had these feelings. Thanks ladies.

Answer:
I think I can help out here. I work as a nurse in a GYN office. I can tell you that they will not be judging you. Trust me when I say that we see ALL sorts of things. I guarentee you that you are not the only patient they your GYN sees who has had a TT or a BA before. It really is not a big deal. A lot of times in my office we will ask about it so that we know which PS's do good work. Then when we have other patients ask us who to go to we can tell them who we have seen good results from. As far as the exam itself goes, nothing should change including the breast exam.

Stacy, I'm so glad you posted this, b/c this is something I had been concerned about too! My gyn is also someone (not a good friend, but we know each other outside of the medical) and we have so many mutual friends. I am sure she would be a professional and never mention it to anyone... I know this.... but it's enough to want me want to change s. I like what some of you said about the doctor being interested and impressed with the surgery..... that makes me think of it differently and now maybe I can go back to her.

I'd really like for someone to post after their pap and tell us what it feels like when they are examining you on the inside and pushing on the outside, like they do. My incision is still so new and raw that I can't even imagine.

Answer:
I wanted to respond to Wish...... I had a hysterectomy done along with my TT, so I had to have a pelvic exam done just a couple of weeks post op. It really wasn't any different. If you are still sensitive in that area just tell your Dr. Ask that they be as gentle as possible.

Answer:
Just had my annual exam last week and my gyn was great. He knew before hand that I was going and asked how it went. I told him great and he asked to look at my incision and he told his nurse to look at how great it looked. He was impressed. I did tell him my abdomen was a little tender and he was very gentle but thorough. I think most are professional and understand.

Best of luck!

Answer:
About the pressing on the abdomen - my appointment was 4 mos po - and my tummy is still quite numb. The pressing didn't hurt at all - but it did feel different because of the numbness. No difference at all from the Pap, either.

I forgot to mention, my new belly button was a item of interest to both my docs.

I would wonder how a mammogram would feel after having implants! That's got to be different.
