FTT/BL in PS Office?

Question: I was surprised to hear that my PS will do my TT/BL on-site. Apparently, the Plastic Surgery Center for which he works has an entire upstairs floor they use for operations. While I was a little taken aback by this news, I wasn't really concerned about it until I started reading comments here. Is this really such a reckless thing to do?

Please note that my PS is one the most reputable surgeons in town, and the Center for which he works is definitely the most reputable in town. I know people who had BA, Brow Lifts, Forehead lifts and other major surgeries at this Center without any problems (their great results were what led me to this Center), but I'd appreciate input on this issue.

The plan is for them to begin the surgery at 7 am, keep me all day to ensure that there are no complications, and send me home in the evening. Is this an appropriate practice, given the surgeries I am having?

Answer:
I had my surgery in PS surgery center and went home same day.
Apparently this is pretty common. I had no problems, and would do it that way again.

Answer:
It's only a problem if there is a complication. How close is the center to a hospital if the need arises? I'm sure the surgeon has a plan in place just in case. Ask him about it.

It's also a good idea to make sure that the person caring for you afterwards will know what to do in case of an emergency. Like the Boy Scouts say, Be Prepared.

Answer:
The surgical center I went to was in Water Tower Place in downtown Chicago on Avenue. It has shops, restaurants, theatre and who knew stuff like surgery goes on in there <grin> Very nice, sterile, clean, professional and I would have no problem with having any additional work done there

Answer:
I know PS will do alot of procedures in surgical centers, but the more serious like these will tend to be done in the hospital.

To be honest tho, I suspect it really depends on the quality of the center. Going to a hospital doesn't insure superior care. Some hospitals aren't very good in terms of equipment, staff, policies, etc..

If you're concerned, I'd look into their record or reputation compared to the local hospital. You might find the center is the better option for this.. Plus, there's no sick people there..

Answer:
I too went to a surgery center and felt very confident being there. My PS told me and I had to sign a paper saying if the need arises and they have to transport me to the nearest hospital I am ok with that. I also went home that afternoon after my surgery. I was good with that too because I am only 5 minutes from a local ER. I knew I was in good hands and wasn't concerned at all about having surgery in a surgery center VS a hospital.

Good luck!

Answer:
mine will be the same way you just have to stay in the area cuz they want to see you the next day, they motel a reduced price for the surg. center.

Answer:
My PS has a surgical suite in his office and I had FTT/BA/ done there. His office is connected to the Hospital and I was taken to the hospital about 3 hrs after surgery for an overnight stay. My PS required a one-night stay in the hospital because of the multiple surgeries at once, but most of his patients have there surgeries and go home.

Answer:
My PS has his surgical suite on site also, and the nearest hospital was 4 miles away. I was allowed to tour the surgical suites before my surgery and the recovery area. I was a bit concerned at first also. But after touring the facility and checking into their history my worries dissipated.

I had my TT/MR/BA at 7am and was home by 12:30pm. The roughest part was having to drive back the next day for a follow-up. It was a 45 minute drive that seemed like 2 hours! lol.. and a 30 yard walk that seemed like 3 miles..

I remember them telling me "okay.. we'll see you tomorrow!" in the recovery room.. while i was nice and drugged up.. and i thought..:"THEY must be doing some of the drugs they gave me cause i'm in no condition to be going anywhere tomorrow!".. lol...

Merci

Answer:
I would check with your PS to see what equipment they have in the surgery center. Many surgery centers have the exact same equipment that they do in the hospital.

At the sugery center where I am getting my BA/BL in November, they actually do heart surgeries. They required special certification and accredation in order to be able to do this (for the record, it's shared with a carteologist and not my PS doing the heart surgeries! ), but given the severity of the heart procedures they have EVERYTHING that the hospital does.

At first, I was nervous about not doing my surgery in a hospital, but the plus side to a surgery center is that there aren't a bunch of sick people running around. There are tons of sick people in hospitals!

Answer:
I am post op 9 days and had an ETT, BL, BA, and to hips, flanks, and very low back/top of butt.

I had the surgery in his office, in their single operating room, I had mild reservations about it but trusted my s judgement, as he is the one I chose for the procedures after interviewing 3 doctors. I also was only there about 30 minutes prior to surgery and 1 hour or less after. My procedure, although planned to be 4-5 hours, it ran long and was 7 hours.

I felt 100% comfortable with my doc, his nurse and the anasthesiologist. I am already scheduled to do some additional lipo and a thigh lift in September.

Answer:
I had my B/A done in a surgery center, and i am having my FTT/MR and done in the same center by the same PS. His center is located directly across the parking lot from the hospital, so that is comforting as well. I have also had many exploratory surgeries for infertility (12-14 years ago) done in a surgery center without any complications.

Answer:
I had my AL/ done in my ps's surgical suite. They showed me around the surigcal suite and recovery room and answered all my questions at my consultation with the ps. I met with the R.N. who would be in charge of my recovery and I was very pleased with the suite and the personnel. As others have said, in a hospital you are around a bunch of sick people, in a ps's office the number of people you are around are considerably lessen.

I plan on having other procedures and I will be more than happy to have them done in the 's office.

Answer:
If your surgery center is fully accredited then you'll befine. Plus, the comment about no sick people is so true! These surgery centers don't take patients with infectious diseases, but hospitals take everything.

Answer:
I'll be having my FTT w/ done in my PS' surgical center. I took a tour of it just the other day and its like a wing in a hospital. Go take a peek at yours to calm your fears, it made me feel better to see how the entire process worked. For me, the hospital is just down the road which is nice to know too.
